Autumn 2003
Kids First News

Welcome to kids First news. We have had a good start to the year and all the children now seem settled into their new routines Last term we thought about colours and numbers, we would like to thank all parents and children that bought in things from home. The children loved showing these to the group and has helped to develop their confidence.

This half term we will be thinking about winter festivals, like bonfire night and Christmas, as well as looking at the changes in the environment.

On the 17th and 19th of November we would like vegetables instead of fruit as we are going to make our famous winter soup.

21st November is Children in need day, so please bring some money with you when you collect your child as the children will be cooking to raise money for this event. We raised £10 for jeans for genes day. So well done.

We will be doing a lot of cooking this term, so we need to know if your child has a food allergy. Don’t worry about what they don’t eat or don’t like, no child will be forced to eat something they don’t like, we encourage them to try that is all. Normal snack will also be on offer for those who do not like the food activity.

Within the next few weeks you should receive an Individual learning plan (Ilp) for your child. The plans are developed by your child’s keyworker. Ilp’s are  personalised learning areas for your child. If there is an area that you are working on at home and would like this added to the plan then please speak to your child’s keyworker who will be happy to include it on. Ilp's help us to work at your child’s level and at a rate that suits them. The key groups are linked to the colour of their name on the home chairs.

Green Sandy, yellow Theresa, red Donna and Maureen, purple Karen, blue Natalie, orange Nicola. You can see your child’s attainment records at any time just speak to your keyworker.

We had a photographer in group on 20th October unfortunately she was not well for the second date, but she will be in group on 6th November. So if your child has not had a photo taken please feel free to come in on that date. The money raised from the photo’s will be going towards the cost of the new climbing frame mats purchased this term. At £600 the extra funds will help.

We have a parent fund raising committee to help raise money for things like the mats etc. Last year they worked hard and raised enough funds to have half the garden made over with a safety surface and a sun house put in. This year we hope to have the garden completed with the safety surface and a growing area developed. The cost will be in the region of £6,000 so we need your help. Judith Hazael is the chairwomen of the committee and is now on her own. She needs your help! Without more people on the committee we wont be able to finish the garden or raise funds for much needed equipment. If you can help in any way please speak to Judith or a member of staff. Christmas catalogues will be given out soon to help raise funds. So please place your orders quickly.

The Christmas party will be on 12th December, arrangements are still being made so more details will follow. We ask  that  children that don’t normally attend on a Friday  pay £6, so that the cost is the same to all children. This payment also means that we supply everything, you only  need to be their in your best party clothes.  If your child may be upset at the party without you, please feel free to stay.
