Special Educational Needs

Choose the policy you want to read

With reference and accordance to the CODE OF PRACTICE for SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS within the pre - school setting. Kids first pre - school policy on special educational needs is as follows:

"As a whole group the emphasis is on your child's needs and not their disability".

We will not turn away any child who we can offer a place to or holds an existing place regardless to colour, creed, sex or disability.

We will aim to adjust and revise provision and activities where necessary to try to meet the needs of the child if possible.

We will aim to identify as early as possible any signs indicated by staff and carers of additional needs required and intervene accordingly.

All notifications will be directed through the pre - schools nominated SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS CO - ORDINATOR (SENCO)

Nicola Preston is the named SENCO within group whom once any need is identified will liaise with parents / carers and outside agencies if needed, to secure the best individual educational plan for your child.

It is important to your child and our pre - school to have an honest parent / carer relationship, to enable us to take into account all the relevant factors that may affect your child's development whilst in our care and beyond. As pre - school educators, observation and record keeping is on going and fundamental when assessing special educational needs.

It is important to be aware that all children have special needs at some stage in their life, i.e. Children on early action, or early action plus. But it is all our duties as parents and carers or educators  to be aware of the additional requirements of some children, it is those whose needs are above that of others in their peer groups that may not be able to achieve or maintain a reasonable standard of health or development without additional provisions.

It is these children as defined under the Education Act 1993 clause 139 (2) that require "SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS".
