Children are constantly learning to understand the world in which we live. It is a basis for later knowledge in science, design and technology, history, geography and information communication and technology (ICT).
They need to be given experiences that encourage them to explore, observe, to solve problems, make predictions, to criticise, to make decisions and to discuss their findings. The experiences should be stimulating and interesting so that the children are curious to find out more. They need the support of caring adults who can answer questions and have an enthusiasm to further their knowledge.
At Kids First we provide these experiences through sand and water play where the children can explore wet and dry sand with a variety of tools, with the capacity of liquid and how it flows through tubes and pumps. There are construction toys, where the children can design their own models. We make playdough and cook with the children where they can weigh, use appropriate tools, learn about health, hygiene and safety in the kitchen, as well as learning about different cultures, religions and nutrition.
They have the opportunity to use dressing up clothes and learn about the multi racial world we live in and different jobs within our communities. Parents / Carers are encouraged to participate and share their knowledge with us.
Our book corner has a wide range of factual and fiction books, where the children can gather information, and can find answers about the world and how things work.
Art activities whilst using a range of materials give positive learning experiences within the curriculum.
