A curriculum is set to ensure that good progress for individuals is made towards the Early Learning Goals and for some beyond.

The curriculum ensures that as practitioners of Kids First we will provide a high quality provision, which offers the children in our care a vast range of experiences and interests to develop their skills with various teaching methods.

The formal curriculum, which covers the essential planning, is set at staff meeting, who agree the education for each ½ term.

Here an area or topic themes is agreed upon which will incorporate the six areas of learning The practitioners will promote these areas through carefully planned activities which highlight the teaching role of the practitioner.

Certain targets will be highlighted and their appropriate goals aimed for i.e. putting on own coat personal social and emotional goal.

This target will then be incorporated in the curriculum planning themed topic ie Autumn.

The curriculum not only plans ahead to achieve the Early Learning Goals, which prepare each child for the next stage, but delivers what is known as the "hidden curriculum".

Here the importance is laid on the different teaching methods that the practitioner can provide to encourage and promote knowledge and learning.

The practitioner will :

  • use his / her experience and guidance through Dfee to extend each child.
  • use play observation questioning and repetition to secure an inspiring environment.
  • Alongside the ability to provide a flexible approach which captures the spontaneity of an event or occurrence.
  • use his / her experience to engulf the situation to maximise the learning experience available with good planning and experienced staff this results in a shared experience by all.

See prospectus for more information about curriculum.
